Many of our LED troffers use integrated LEDs, meaning the LED arrays are built in and not replaceable. For additional savings, look for DLC and DLC Premium-rated fixtures as some may also qualify for state or local rebates. Product warranties of five to ten years provide even greater confidence for long-lasting performance. Available in a variety of sizes (2’x4’, 2’x2’, and 1’x4’), the life span of these recessed lighting fixtures ranges from 50,000 to 100,000 hours. LED troffers have longer lifespans and consume less power than traditional fluorescent troffers, thereby saving money on maintenance and operational costs. For testing rooms, hospitals, and dentist offices, studies have shown that a cooler white Kelvin temperature around 4000 is better for visibility, focus, alertness, and productivity. If you prefer the light of halogen lamps, pick a fixture that produces a warmer light around 3000 Kelvin. The low-glare lens of LED panels also helps to eliminate dark spots and reduce the number of fixtures needed to cover an area. LED troffers feature a frosted lens to evenly diffuse light. How the Light is DistributedĪccording to the Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA), a well-distributed light is ideal for low glare helping to reduce eye strain and improve safety in the workplace. Just keep in mind that if you need to adjust the settings after installation, you will need to unmount the fixture to access the controls. These LED panels and troffers have one or two switches, usually located on the back of the fixture. Ideal for both new construction and remodeling, selectable led panels allow you to set the light output, set a color temperature, or set both during installation. The back-lit fixtures have a slightly larger profile than edge-lit panels. The light is channeled directly into the lens, providing a more uniform light. Back-lit LED panels, on the other hand, place LED diodes in rows across the back of the fixture cavity. This gives edge-lit panels a slimmer profile. Using a guide panel, the light is directed into a diffuser that evenly distributes the light output. Edge-lit panels have LED strips placed along the edges of the fixture. LED panel lighting is available as either edge-lit or back-lit. For greater versatility, some LED panels may also be suspended or surface-mounted with the right mounting hardware or kits. Once the integrated LED driver has been properly wired, tabs on the back of the fixture must be bent for the panel light to hang directly from the drop ceiling. Designed primarily for drop-ceilings or drywall ceilings, these LED panels are remarkably easy to install. Each LED light panel comes with a built-in LED driver to eliminate compatibility issues and assist with ease of installation. They only weigh about seven pounds each- lightweight enough to allow for one-person installation, reducing labor costs. Unlike traditional troffers that can be bulky, LED panels have an incredibly thin design, making them ideal for shallow ceilings. Sold individually or in packs, these fixtures come on instantly to full brightness without needing a warmup period, and feature a shatter-resistant lens. ![]() They have been tested to meet strict energy standards and may qualify for state or local rebates. For even greater savings, look for those with DLC certification. LED PanelsĪvailable in 2’x4’, 2’x2’, and 1’x4’ sizes, LED panels offer the same exceptional energy savings as LED troffers. Other options include a pre-installed emergency battery backup that will power the fixture for up to 90 minutes during a power outage. Some ceiling light panels and troffers are dimmable with 0-10V dimmer switches and may be compatible with motion sensors to customize lighting levels and reap even greater energy savings. Choose from a variety of size options and color temperatures ranging from 3000 Kelvin to 5000 Kelvin. Improve overall lighting and reduce energy costs by replacing existing fluorescent fixtures in classrooms, hospitals, offices, and other commercial settings with LED panels and troffers. ![]()
